Hi, I'm Lawrence Tijjani, founder of Just a Guy CIC, a social enterprise dedicated to helping young people reach their full potential through mentoring and workshops. I started Just a Guy CIC after suffering a severe epileptic attack 10 years ago, which left me needing to relearn how to walk. Now, I battle chronic pain daily while running two businesses and raising my amazing son.
Read Time: 2 minutes Happy Monday 👋🏾, I’ll be honest, last Monday was an absolute disaster. Of all days – the start of the week, when you’re supposed to be at your best! I managed to get up at my usual time – not that I had much choice, thanks to the pain waking me up (as it does at times). I even made it to the gym, so I thought I was off to a good start. I did the childcare run, and there were no problems there. Then I decided to work from home... because it was raining. Yeah, I know, poor excuse – but I wasn’t feeling like braving that weather. But then I got distracted and then frustrated. Then, I was more distracted. Then, even more frustrated. By the time the afternoon hit, I realised I hadn’t done a single productive thing. So I thought, “Go for a walk, it will help to clear my head.” Spoiler alert: it didn’t work. Monday was hands down one of the worst, most unproductive days I’ve had in a while – and that’s saying something, considering I deal with my fair share of pain flare-ups. But you know what? I’m betting you’ve had days like this too. Anyone who claims they’ve got their life together every single day and sticks to their perfect routine without fail is having a laugh. Not every day has to be a productivity powerhouse, no matter what social media would have you believe. People have bought into this “perfect productivity” trend, where if you have a bad day, it’s because you don’t want it bad enough. The truth is, we’re all human. We have off days. Some of us more than others. Honestly, it took me years to realise I’m not the only one struggling with this. We’re all in the same boat, rowing in circles from time to time. Life cannot be perfect every day. Even in the gym where I am super disciplined, 60% of my workouts are rubbish. I sit there, mid-set, thinking, “Why am I doing this to myself?” But it’s that magical 10% where I absolutely crush it and walk out feeling like Michael B. Jordan. That 10%? That’s why I keep going through the other 90%. Monday was a 60% day for me. But I still pushed through and did the bare minimum I needed to. Now, I’m one step closer to that 10% day. So, if you’ve had a bad day recently, don’t beat yourself up. It’s totally normal. Quote of the Week
